A Wicked Evening with Gregory Maguire

November 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join us to hear renowned author, Gregory Maguire, present his new book Hiddensee. Stick around for a time of Q & A with the audience to be followed by a book signing in the Kirkland Lobby. This program is provided FREE to the public and sponsored by Decatur Public Library, Millikin University, and the Friends of Decatur Public Library. The first 200 guests to arrive receive a free copy of Hiddensee.

Planted in the rich soil of early-nineteenth-century German Romanticism, Hiddensee is a poignant coming-of-age story of the Nutcracker and his creator, Herr Drosselmeier. In typical Maguire fashion, Hiddensee explores Drosselmeier’s relationship to the fantasy realm, how the Nutcracker came to be carved and to have the power of ushering a sick child into dreamy paradise on Christmas Eve.

Gregory Maguire is the author of a number of novels for children, nine adult novels, and several short stories, picture books, essays and reviews.

His adult novels include WICKED: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST, SON OF A WITCH, A LION AMONG MEN, and OUT OF OZ, the four volumes of The Wicked Years, and all four New York Times bestsellers, as well as national bestsellers CONFESSIONS OF AN UGLY STEPSISTER, LOST, MIRROR MIRROR, and THE NEXT QUEEN OF HEAVEN, EGG AND SPOON, HIDDENSEE. The combined book sales of these eight volumes approaches ten million copies.

Mr. Maguire received his Ph.D. in English and American Literature at Tufts University (1990). He has lived abroad in Dublin and London, and now makes his home with his family in New England and in France.
